The area is well known in Portugal for its high quality sparkling wines, being in 1989 the first DOC to be authorized to make this type of wine due to three factors: average altitude, sun exposure, and soils variety

Malvasia Fina, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga Nacional . 13% Vol. Alc. . First fermentation in stainless steel tanks, 9 months in oak barrels, and second fermentation in the bottle, with a 10 years “siesta” until its release on the market

Caves Murganheira stands out in Tavora – Varosa as the most famous winery in the area, for its quality and the commitment of Orlando Lourenço, who acquired the winery in 1987, in transporting the Champagne methodology to Portugal, being perfectly aware of climate limits . The other hand of the winery is Marta Lourenço, the “sparkling lady”, a benchmark in the production of Portuguese sparkling wines, Orlando Lourenço’s daughter-in-law, innate worker, villager, and winemaker by mistake and fate.
