The blackboards go by “levels”, more general wines with well-known wineries, more premium wines and small producers, and the smallest and most colorful one is for freaks. Mandatory to try one of the last one.

TERRACE: NO. Although being in the old town means that street becomes an improvised terrace with a couple of barrels as tables.

CURIOSITIES: What a wonderful place, wines, pintxos and people…. A traditional tavern, family atmosphere, great pintxos and memories hanging on the wall. With a R&D in blackboards from with about 100 wine references and glasses that more than an awarded restaurant would like to have in. Taberna Basaras is a winning horse if you visit Bilbao, all standing, yes, the high tables are limited and fully booked, that is the real essence. A tavern founded by a grandfather and now continued by his grandson, Jon – not forgetting Beatriz, his mother – a sommelier with his WSET 3 degree hanging on the wall with his shy smile and willing to talk about wines until, according to him, he bores you. For winelovers, watch out for the little blackboard with wines in fluorescent colors, he has real unicorns by the glass, Jon doesn’t hesitate a second to open a bottle. Just amazing.
