DESCRIPTION: “Those were difficult years, in a war-torn Madrid, Pepita, widow of Cuenllas, opened a small butter shop that supplied groceries to the neighborhood. Little by little, important families began to take up residence in the neighborhood and in particular in Rosales Street, which made the store’s offer grow.

Already at the end of the 60’s the first Grand Cru from Bordeaux, foie gras from Las Landas or the best French cheeses began to be seen. At the end of the 80’s, with the help of Angel Cuenllas, the great change came, the expansion of the store to what it is today and the opening of the bar in the adjoining premises. At the time it was a great revolution, one of the first tapas and wine bars in the capital. Since then little has changed, everything has evolved with the times but trying not to lose the essence of Doña Pepita and the post-war era.”

CURIOSITIES: A collection of cult wines, mythical vintages and exclusive references imported by the house itself. A familiar, stately and affectionate atmosphere. A temple of wine and gourmet gastronomy since 1939. Waiters in jackets and impeccable service in this legendary grocery store with the Cuenllas family still involved to the fullest. A Madrilenian classic that has a more informal version, more wine & fun, in its recent opening, CUENLLLAS SALESAS.

AREA: Argüelles – Plaza de España. Moncloa, Madrid.
