An incognito Syrah surrounded by gurus
What is in the bottle
Dry red wine . Cortes de Cima Tinto 2020
Elaboration area
Vidigueira. Alentejo, Portugal . Due to the proximity of the mountainous area of the Serra do Meandro to the Estate, an exceptional microclimate is created thanks to the breezes from the Atlantic Ocean, relaxing the typical warm temperatures of this southeastern Portugal area
Suitable for
For curious people both who want to discover not so popular wine-growing Portugal areas and whose want to try a wine advised by current viticulture and wine gurus
Viticulture and vinification
Syrah and Touriga Franca . 13.50% Vol.Alc. . Granite and limestone soils . The 2020 vintage represents a new beginning for the second generation after applying new regenerative organic farming methods . Manual night harvest . Minimal intervention Vinification . Aged in used French barrels for one year and in stainless steel tanks for another year before bottling
As a curiosity, the Syrah variety was the first planted by the owner family after purchasing the estate, when it was not even allowed by the Alentejo DOC, which is why their first wine was called “Incognito”
Tasting notes
Fresh fruit, cherry, plum with black olive and pepper hints . An elegant wine, well balanced acidity and smooth tannins
Winery hints
Cortes de Cima began with the bucolic story of the Jørgensens, a Danish-American couple who, fascinated by the Alentejo, bought an estate to create their life project . But it was in 2019, with the union of actual great viticulture and wine figures, Marco Simonit, Pedro Parra, Jamie Goode, that drew the attention of many curious people to a non-popular portuguese wine area due to its volumes . Anna Jørgensen, second generation winemaker, returned home and bet for such a team to achieve a total transformation of her family estate towards “sustainable and organic agriculture with minimal environmental impact” through an exhaustive study of the area
