DESCRIPTION: “It all began in September 1939, when Argelio Ortega, second son of a family of cattle breeders from La Mancha, opened the first butcher’s shop at number 19 of the central street Emilio Castelar in Alcázar de San Juan, Ciudad Real. He soon differentiated himself from the rest by turning the establishment into a place of reference for the quality of its products, making Ortega’s a synonym of prestige. The opening of new establishments in the towns of Tomelloso, Campo de Criptana, Pedro Muñoz and Herencia, and a second one in Alcázar de San Juan, attests to the expansion and success of the company. Now, in the 21st century, the fourth generation of the Ortega family is in charge of a business that is firmly committed to innovation. We have always had a specialized butcher’s shop and our gourmet store, for which we have carefully selected numerous products of the highest quality at reasonable prices. Our wine cellar in Ortega offers a selection of thousands of wines from all Spanish appellations, from producers already committed to tradition or innovative, from large or small wineries.”

CURIOSITIES: This was one of the first wine shops I bought wine myself. Back in the days it did came that overwhelming feeling when faced with so many bottles, What do I choose? What do I buy? Luckily, behind the shelves there has been a great team that guides, advises and usually gets it right, as it was in my experience. Today at Casa Ortega I get lost and relax hidden among regions, vintages and many curious things, with great prices and guaranteed quality items. Casa Ortega has an exquisite selection of products – butchery and gourmet food -, a very complete and well selected wine collection, highlighting producers of their (our) home, Castilla La Mancha region, and wonderful little details that make the difference – I will not say a word, go and check – . The ideal place to make a gift or self-gift. I, do, always, come back.
