A true entrepreneur winelover tasting, André Hueston Mack, a Texan sommelier, winemaker, designer and back in the days financier who abandoned his office job to venture into his true passion, gave us a REAL and TRANSPARENT vision of the world of wine in the US market.
1. To be sucessful in the the US market, you must be there. There are 50 states, which are 50 “countries” to take care of daily.
2. European wines are consumed more on the EAST COAST than on the west, where Californian wines predominate.
3. OTHER FORMATS are becoming strong, especially bag in box, even for premium wines.
4. SPARKLING wines and NATURAL wines are the increasing trend in the market.
5. AWARENESS about climate and sustainability in viticulture and winemaking.
6. SPANISH WINES are clearly behind the French and Italian ones. However, their quality-price ratio is now more valued, they are no longer seen only as “cheap wines”. The rising trend is natural wine producers.
7. ALCOHOL-FREE wines represent an important quota.
8. SCORES are no longer as decisive in the purchasing decision.
9. The final costumer is divided into beer, spirits and wine drinkers. These last ones are being increasingly curious and knowledgeable. They look for the complete EXPERIENCE with STORIES behind each bottle they will fall in love with.
